Blues Rock/Doom Metallers WIZDOOM Release New Single And Video For SONG OF THE UNHEARD

The new Wizdoom track ’Song Of The Unheard’ is available now!

A dark song, inspired by the Swedish ”Myling”, this is probably our heaviest song so far!

This new release is pure epic doom I would say, we went a little bit slower and darker than before. Personally I really like this new direction, the lyrics are still inspired by old Swedish creatures and stories, but I think the vocals and lyrics came alive very well with this darker sound. As I’m also a big fan of epic doom like Candlemass, I really enjoy this new song and I can’t wait to play it live on the road in the next few weeks!” - Chris. D

WIZDOOM is the spark of Chris David (Majestica, Therion live, ex-Captain Crimson) as how Blues/Doom Metal sound in his head. Inspired by fellow wizards Candlemass, Witchcraft, and Joe Bonamassa, WIZDOOM crosses over stoner, sludge, and the traditional in honor of the creators of this Doom Blues that today we call Metal.

Thanks to Chris at Moving Air Music for all of the details.

Review

Excursion is the debut full length album Doom/Stoner Metallers CLEEN and the band have been building up a fearsome reputation within the underground scene especially within their home area of Flint, Michigan. CLEEN who express their WEEDIAN philosophy through tales of mind-altering grooves and a few encounters with ALIEN lifeforms along the way.

Inspired by the likes of SLEEP, KYUSS, Melvins, Soundgarden and Progressive Sludge Riffsters such as Baroness and Mastodon whilst performing in their own vivid and psychedelic way. The album is quite raw-sounding and pulls no punches with the production techniques used for Excursion which gives their album a real “underground” sound and feel whilst still sounding superb for a debut album such as this.

CLEEN get straight down to business by performing a Garage Rock or Street-Doom style of Stoner Metal with tales of paranoia and weed induced states on tracks such as Planet 332b, No One Remembers But You and These Signs. The music is evolved from the classic grooves and influential sounds the STONER or WEEDIAN scene has provided since the early 90’s but CLEEN bring a level of Punk Rock stubbornness and down-tuned seedy vibes where their music evokes memories of early-era SLEEP fused with the legendary Black Sabbath amplifier sound.

However, CLEEN throw in a musical intro, sound effect and heavy pounding grooves that takes the music into darker waters with a never-ending array of ferocious Noise Rock fuelled jams when merged with the drug-induced lyrics cause a deep sense of paranoia that maybe influenced by Philip K. Dick in parts.

The record is kind of reckless and this mentality allows CLEEN to develop their own sound with feedback loops, glitchy noises and a thrilling Psychedelic Rock movement developing into areas of Post-Doom surrounding which appear throughout the rest of the album on tracks such as Menticidial Betrayal, Year Of The Reaper, Sultane Of Sand, Fatal Blow and A Means To An End.

Excursion takes a major turn into Melvins based creative territory where CLEEN wreck havoc with the rules of Doom/Stoner Metal as melodies become more complex and noise rock induced with a cracking Grunge after thought catching upto the WEEDIAN atmospherics. The record is superbly inventive with a devilish charm heard within Patrick’s vocals and guitar playing. Jordan on Drums and Cooley on Bass provide the monolithic and progressive fuel that makes this Power Trio really tick and jump right into action.

CLEEN have provided a different sounding Doom/Stoner Metal album with freakish sounds throughout and trippy hallucinogenic moments that will take the listener into the far vast reaches of this dimension and into the next. Excursion is a must have album from CLEEN and one that may propel them onto the biggest support slots and festival stages the scene has to offer sooner than expected.

5.The Whale (Isaak)

7.Flat Earth (Isaak)

Review

Famed Heavy Rock Label Heavy Psych Sounds presents their latest split album release featuring two of their finest Cosmic Stoner Rock bands teaming up on a highly irresistible release featuring Cosmic Blues Rock Overlords GEEZER and Psychedelic Stoner Riffsters ISAAK. These two greats of the Stoner Rock scene bring their own trademark blend of Psychedelic Stoner Rock/Metal which are quite different to each other but both having the same purpose of providing the listener with a wicked style of highly energetic grooves and extended spaced out jams.

GEEZER provide four tracks of cosmic riffage which sees the band expand upon their Blues Rock and Cosmic dominated style with a freaky sideline within Seventies Space Rock aggression merging with a modern day Sludge Rock take on things appearing within Acid Veins and Little Voices being perhaps the standout tracks from GEEZER’s side of the split.

It’s good seeing GEEZER turning back the clock and venturing into sounds we’ve haven’t heard since their earlier album releases. There’s a ton of guitar reverb and fuzzed up feedback on GEEZER’s tracks which makes for some killer seedy instrumental sounds with Pat’s “Devil May Care” attitude and catchy vocals making a stirring impression on the final two tracks of Mercury Rising and Oneirophrenia. Plus with the added bonus of glitchy noises and a healthy overdose of SONIC feedback that sees GEEZER leaving you wanting to hear more from them on this release alone.

ISAAK’s side of the split release sees the band continue the experimental Stoner Metal sound heard on their last album HEY but with some familiar themes and creative ideas heard on their groundbreaking 2016 album Sermonize. The music is more fast-paced which you’ll encounter on The Whale with its Fuzzed Up Metallic attitude with a ton of Psychedelic aggression.

ISAAK keep going with that free-flowing Sludge/Stoner aggressive turn on the remaining two tracks of Crisis and Flat Earth with the band bringing a different theme to each track with the music constantly changing into something you don’t expect. ISAAK feel like a different band compared to HEY at times and that could be down to the creative partners or guest musicians who appear within their songs that are listed below:

Fabio Cuomo from Gotho & Liquido di Morte - THE WHALE

Fabio Palombi from Nerve & Burn the Ocean - CRISIS

Levre from Ufomammut - FLAT EARTH

My favourite track from ISAAK side of the split is FLAT EARTH as it feels like UFOMAMMUT in places especially within the Heavier Sludge movements that appear. This track also allows ISAAK to do their own thing at the same time. Though, Crisis is a track that could have easily come from their landmark album Sermonize but the harsh vocals give it a more unsettling appeal as well. So there’s something for everyone to enjoy, respect and admire from ISAAK’s music on this release alone.

Interstellar Cosmic Blues & The Riffalicious Stoner Dudes is a first rate collaboration from two of Heavy Psych Sounds roster of Psychedelic Stoner Rock/Metal outfits. This is a must have addition to all fans of GEEZER, ISAAK, Heavy Psych Sounds and Stoner Metal music in general.

As Pat from GEEZER would say - “You Dig” - and I most definitely do. Fantastic stuff…

Review

Out Of Water is the new EP from Psychedelic Doom/Stoner Metallers Spaceslug and it’s a record that offers thirty two minutes of trippy and pure Cosmic Doom heaviness from one of the most impressive and brilliantly creative bands from the underground scene. This time round Spaceslug continues the journey last heard on their 2021 release Memorial by blending this with the world-weary mysticism of their earlier albums.

The EP sees Spaceslug combining a wealth of different sounding vocals from all three members all vying for lead vocalist slot. The sound and journey of Out Of Water is one of despair and progressive heaviness which Spaceslug are absolute masters at. Heavy sludgy guitars have been given a slightly Post-Rock/Post-Metallic sound with the Progressive energy of Bartosz guitars allowing Jan and Kamil to conjure up a more gloomy and psychedelic sound on Bass and Drums respectively.

Spaceslug has written some spellbinding lyrics that gives Out Of Water a wholly driven narrative structure especially on the first two opening tracks of Tears Of Antimatter and Arise The Sun. There’s some similar themes and sounds on drummer Kamil's recent studio project Mountain Of Misery but with Spaceslug playing with a more bleak and destructive sound.

The EP sees Spaceslug become more thoughtful and reflective within their lyrics and even using some cinematic sounding Post-Rock movements on the later stages of the EP on tracks such as Out Of Water and Delusions.

Out Of Water is a brilliant mix of harsh, ice-cold and progressive grooves that once again allows Spaceslug to bridge the gap between Psychedelic Stoner Metal and Cosmic Doom Metal for a refreshing style of music that only they can deliver.

Spacrslug have once again delivered the goods and released an outstanding EP that takes their music to dramatic new heights which their dedicated fan-base will no doubt listen to time and time again. Sublime. End Of.

Review

Heavy Psych Rockers Nine Moons latest album Caracaras is a record that is mostly driven by 1960’s & 1970’s era of Heavy Psych, Garage Rock, Acid Rock and Blues Rock. The sound is then topped off with a thrilling 1990’s devilish blend of Desert Rock, Grunge and Stoner Rock. The whole journey is one of that is unashamedly RETRO RAWK with moments of aggressive Stoner Rock which turns up in the most unlikeliest places with Nine Moons laying down a non-stop array of trippy Psychedelic jams which can be quite off-beat and kooky but for all the right reasons.

Caracaras gets off to a flying start with tracks such as Desert Eyes and Sage have a sublime style of vintage sounding Stoner Rock grooves where NIne Moons sound like QOTSA and KYUSS in places but if those great bands played with a more stripped back approach. The instrumental sounds can be quite trippy and you can hear echoes of Middle Eastern flavours starting to appear within the first half of the album.

The vocals are warm, friendly and quite engaging from lead vocalist Stuart but Nine Moons do play some jagged and volatile sludgy guitars along the way. Nine Moons impress the most on the two lengthier tracks on the record with Smokehouse and Haunted Vista. These are the third and last tracks on the album but they offer the most soulful, bashful and heaviest moments of the record with a classic Blues Rock and Psychedelic Rock being quite “POP” based at times. These two songs are quite melodic but with a Prog Rock finish which allows Nine Moons to experiment with their sound even further.

There’s two other cool sounding shorter tracks of The Crawl and Hunter’s Moon which retain a more classic Stoner Rock/Grunge essence but with that Middle Eastern movement appearing once again. This allows Nine Moons to be quite comfortable and superbly clever with all the different styles and lengths of music that appear within Caracaras.

Caracaras is quite a surprising album with the different creative turns that Nine Moons take the listener upon especially within the thirty two minutes short run time. This is a delightfully hip and adventurous record which offers some classic sounding riffs along the way.

Classic Rock/Hard Rock/Stoner Rockers MASHEENA Release New Song/Video For GOING DOWN Through Majestic Mountain Records

Going Down is a cover of the classic blues tune written by Don Nix, made famous by Freddie King, and covered by probably every blues band in the world.

Released as a digital single through Majestic Mountain Records.

Still, the energy of the original really resonated with us, so we decided to record a version anyway! During what we ended up calling the "GlaMasheena"- sessions with super producer Iver Sandøy at the helm at Solslottet Studios in December of '23, we tried to get a kind of glammy, 70s production on the tracks.

That sound is more apparent on the other track from those sessions, Married To Rock 'N' Roll, but still we're very happy with the result, and we had a great time recording. What more can you ask? We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it, and as much at love playing it live! Cover artwort for the single by the talented Martin Kvam.

For now, this concludes our little flirt with 70s glam rock, we just finished recording our second album at The Machine Shop in Dripping Springs, Texas, USA, with our new friend Machine (The Producer). Did we bring the glam and blues into those sessions? You’ll have to wait and see!

So, what’s next for Masheena? The release of Going Down marks the start of our first EU/UK tour, check the dates below:

25th of May: De Tanker in Noord, Amsterdam
26th of May: Signature Brew Haggerston, London
27th of May: Devils Dog Digbeth, Birmingham
28th of May: The Gryphon, Bristol
29th of May: Bear Cave, Bournemouth

Thanks to Majestic Mountain Records for all of the info.
